Overview
Vilas Mediterrâneo is a residential development promoted by the Irmãos Chaves Group, located in the area of Assomada, in Caniço, on the island of Madeira. Conceived as a distinctive residential project, the development was designed to combine Mediterranean architectural inspiration with functional, family-oriented housing integrated into the surrounding landscape.
The project was developed in two phases and comprises a total of 24 townhouses, with three- and four-bedroom layouts. The first phase, completed in 2003, delivered 11 homes, while the second phase, concluded in 2005, added 13 additional units, completing the residential ensemble. Each property was designed with private outdoor areas, gardens, patios and dedicated parking, emphasizing comfort, privacy and a strong connection to the natural surroundings.

Inspired by the concept of a Mediterranean village, the development stands out for its careful volumetric composition and urban design. The houses were positioned across different elevations and alignments, avoiding rigid repetition and creating a more dynamic and harmonious architectural landscape. Particular attention was given to solar exposure, views and integration with the terrain, ensuring that each residence benefits from light, privacy and openness to the surrounding scenery.
Over time, the majority of the units were acquired by private owners, reflecting the strong reception the project received in the residential market. Today, a selection of the villas remains under the management of the Group and is operated as local accommodation, forming part of the Group’s hospitality and accommodation portfolio and offering spacious, residential-style stays for visitors to Madeira.
